Our Story

North Star Family and Child Psychology was first founded in 2021 in Metuchen, New Jersey as North Star Family Autism Center. At the time, Dr. Kate Fiske identified a growing need in the community for high-quality psychotherapy services for autistic individuals and their families. While the number of children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with autism in New Jersey has steadily increased, families often report difficulty finding providers with deep expertise in working with autistic individuals.
In response, Dr. Fiske drew on her years of experience supporting autistic children, teens, and adults to develop a therapeutic model designed to support not only the individual, but the entire family system.

Within a short time, the practice expanded to include a multidisciplinary team of therapists from the fields of clinical psychology, school psychology, counseling psychology, behavior analysis, and marriage and family therapy. (Learn about our clinicians.) Together, the team works collaboratively to meet the needs of autistic clients as well as their parents and siblings. After a relocation to Edison, New Jersey in 2023, North Star Family Autism Center was able to present workshops for families and professionals across the state, offered free and low-cost family support groups, and, in 2024, expanded services to include diagnostic and psychoeducational evaluations.

As the practice became established in the community, it became clear that the clinicians’ extensive training could support not only autistic individuals, but also neurodivergent youth more broadly, as well as children, adolescents, and young adults with a range of mental health and behavioral concerns.

In 2026, we introduced North Star Family and Child Psychology, a trade name of North Star Family Autism Center. Under this name, we continue to offer evidence-based evaluation, therapy, and family support. We now provide services to children, adolescents, and young adults with autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, tic disorders, and other mental, emotional, or behavioral concerns. Our staff works with the entire family through individual, couple, and family therapy. At the core of our work is a commitment to understanding the unique needs of each individual and tailoring best-practice approaches to support both the individual and their family.

While our name has evolved, our commitment to serving neurodivergent individuals and their families remains central to our work. We look forward to continuing to serve the families of Edison, New Jersey, and the surrounding community for years to come.
